Courageous truth-teller Jordan Peterson has been suspended from Twitter for daring to express an opinion that opposes the agenda of transgenderism, a take-no-prisoners ideology that he believes threatens the very underpinnings of both our society and Western civilization as a whole.
Commentator Lisa Boothe summed up the state of play in recent tweets, which themselves place her in jeopardy of expulsion from Twitter.
“The transgender stuff needs to be a red line,” she wrote. “We cannot live in a world of fiction and make believe.”
“If they can convince society that dudes can be girls and girls can be dudes, we are officially owned. Down is up and up is down. There is no wrong or right at that point,” Boothe wrote.
It needs to be said that virtually no one even cared about the previously miniscule number of consenting adults having sex-reassignment surgery or hormone therapy until the Left started to demand that people think of these things as normal and forced these beliefs on children. Advocated by these radicals, puberty blockers, which can harm young bodies, are being prescribed for children who are now, because of incessant propaganda, reporting discomfort with their sex in record numbers. Long-term use of these drugs adversely affects brain development, bone density, and fertility.
People who consider themselves transgender deserve sympathy. They are largely miserable. Genital mutilation, no matter what the legions of George Soros-funded experts and imams say, does not lead to happiness. A national survey found that 52 percent “of all transgender and nonbinary young people in the U.S. seriously contemplated killing themselves in 2020.”
But Americans are an accepting people; they are not naturally hostile to transgender people. Cross-dressing entertainers have been around forever. The 1959 film, Some Like It Hot, is just one example. About two male musicians disguising themselves as women in an all-female band, the movie was a big box office hit. And nowadays nobody hates RuPaul, a male celebrity known for performing as a drag queen.
If someone wants to cosplay and pretend to be Bigfoot or a unicorn, most people don’t care. But now normal, sane people who might otherwise feel sympathy for transgender people, are being forced to play along with this gaslighting and say under threat of punishment that such things are normal. And the “transitioning” business, which used to be insignificant, is booming, and those who stand in its way are ostracized, even fired from their jobs.
The Biden regime is also becoming a big part of the problem.
Our placeholder president, the enfeebled Joe Biden, made Rachel Levine, who was was born Richard Levine, Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Levine is controversial because, among other things, his pandemic policies as Pennsylvania health secretary got many people killed.
Then Biden, to showcase his approval of transgenderism, an ideology he is trying to shove down the throats of Americans, including the U.S. military, made the Butcher of Harrisburg a four-star admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Peterson is fighting these destructive trends. He sees the possibility of authoritarianism on the horizon.
Outside of Twitter, in January Peterson told podcaster Joe Rogan that being transgender is a “sociological contagion,” likening it to “satanic ritual abuse.” Social acceptance of the trans community is a symbol of “civilizations collapsing,” he added.
He knows that totalitarian societies are based on lies, so they require people to recite untruths. Forcing people to endorse lies breaks them mentally. People who lose the ability to distinguish between what is good or bad, right or wrong, truth or fiction, are dangerous.
As Hannah Arendt counseled, “The result of a consistent and total substitution of lies for factual truth is not that the lie will now be accepted as truth and truth be defamed as a lie, but that the sense by which we take our bearings in the real world—and the category of truth versus falsehood is among the mental means to this end—is being destroyed.”
Peterson himself is a rare academic, a disarmingly honest man who is not part of the woke cabal. He was a clinical psychology professor at Harvard and more recently at the University of Toronto. The Canadian thinker left the cesspool of academia earlier this year. Although Peterson previously wanted to stay at Toronto “until they had to haul my skeleton out of my office,” he decided to leave that hostile, hyper-ideological work environment to teach online so he could reach “many more people and with less interference,” he wrote in the National Post January 19.
Controversial Tweet
In the offending June 22 tweet, Peterson criticized movie star Ellen Page for having her breasts removed and savaged the surgeon who chopped them off.
Roughly a week later Twitter forbade him from tweeting and demanded he bow down to transgenderism and confess his thought crimes. The company, whose stock price has been collapsing, directed him to delete the following tweet if he wanted to regain his tweeting privileges:
“Remember when pride was a sin? And Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminal physician.”
Ellen Page is the Canadian-born 35-year-old actor –remember that “actor” is, grammatically speaking, a gender-neutral word encompassing both male and female thespians— who decided to get surgery so she would look like a man.
Page is known for the movies Inception, Hard Candy, Juno, Whip It, and the classic cult television series “Trailer Park Boys.”
After the “top” surgery was accomplished, Page looks more masculine than she did, presumably aided by hormone treatments. She has decided she wants to be called Elliot Page. But Page, despite her willing self-disfigurement, still has two X chromosomes, not an X and a Y. She is still female and no amount of social media mob pressure or indoctrination campaigns will change this fact.
But the radicals say this person is –abracadabra!— now a man, a “trans man,” because she claims she is, and woe to the masses of unenlightened internet users who disagree. People who refuse to accept this assertion that Page is a man are routinely punished, even banned for life, by Twitter.
Add to this an Orwellian twist: Google, Wikipedia, and social media platforms have bowed to the transgenderism movement and retconned references to her as a woman, banishing the female identity that for some reason the entertainer hates.
Go online and look up the role “Ellen Page” played in these productions and you will get results for “Elliot Page,” complete with he/him/his references, even covering the work she did before she “transitioned” – which euphemism is itself an example of icky transgenderist jargon.
Of course, Page can do what she wants with her body but that doesn’t mean Peterson has to like it or that he has to believe such increasingly popular surgeries are good for society.
As for the contents of the tweet, it is an objective fact that pride has traditionally been viewed as a sin. It is also true that the actor’s breasts were in fact removed, but Peterson’s claim that this example of gender-affirming surgery –another hideous euphemism— carried out on the gender-dysphoria-suffering actor is “criminal,” is his considered opinion, something that is supposed to be welcomed on Twitter.
Peterson later clarified his thoughts on the opinion portion of the tweet.
“It is clearly the case that the surgical operation performed by the butchers who butchered Elliot/Ellen was legal. So was it criminal or not? Were the operations undertaken by the fascist physicians who carried out the Nazi medical experiments legal? Yes, under the laws of the time, but were they criminal? I’ll leave that question up to you to answer.”
But Twitter didn’t seem to care about Peterson’s jab at Page’s unidentified physician. Twitter only cared about Peterson’s disrespect for the transgender faith.
The company cited the tweet in question and accused him of “violating our rules against hateful conduct.”
“You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affirmation, age, disability, or serious disease,” the generic you-are-a-bad-person email from Twitter said.
Peterson obviously did not promote violence against, or threaten or harass Page. He was simply micro-blogging about an issue he considered important.
And it goes without saying that Twitter, despite the expansive, catch-all wording of the speech code in its form letter, does not regard Page as having a “disability” or a “serious disease,” because the Twitterati regard Page as perfectly normal and want to normalize transgenderism no matter the cost to society. They live and breathe this antisocial madness.
But failing to genuflect before the ideology du jour merits de-platforming, according to the avant-garde leftists who are running Twitter into the ground.
Peterson’s Thought Crimes
Let’s unpack all the thought crimes that Peterson committed, according to the ultra-radical vanguard of the transgenderism movement.
First, Peterson is guilty of “deadnaming.” This happens when someone adopts a so-called gender identity and a new name consistent with that gender identity and someone else uses the former, or dead, name. Calling Page “Ellen” is deadnaming.
Second, Peterson is guilty of “misgendering.” This happens when someone adopts a gender identity and someone else refuses to verbally recognize it. Saying Page had “her” breasts removed is misgendering.
In America (and in Peterson’s and Page’s home country of Canada) we’re nice so we generally call people what they want to be called and some of us, even if it feels wrong, use the personal pronouns they prefer. Doing so is not legally required, despite the best efforts of the totalitarian transgenderism movement.
Third, Peterson is guilty of wrongthink because he said that a woman having her breasts removed so she would look more like a man is a bad thing. The woke tolerate no dissent on this issue. Disagree and the mob will hunt you down, as it has done over and over again with Peterson and others. (I previously wrote about leftist officials’ effort in Durham, North Carolina, to censor Peterson.)
Peterson’s account still appears to be suspended. At time of writing, his Twitter page had not been updated since June 28.
Twitter’s policies make it impossible to express oneself honestly and coherently, Peterson said in a July 1 video about the controversy.
“How could I possibly have written that sentence in any sensible manner whatsoever while simultaneously making my point understandable and not breaking Twitter rules against so-called hateful conduct?” Peterson said. “And ‘Elliot Page just had his breasts removed’? Was he Elliot then? When exactly? Exactly. He was definitely Ellen at some point in the past.”
“The suspension will not be lifted unless I delete the ‘hateful’ tweet in question, and I would rather die than do that,” Peterson said. “Hopefully, it will not come to that, although who the hell knows in these increasingly strange days.”
Peterson pointed out the absurdity of the Twitter rules.
“And how can I describe the fact that someone who was once a woman, and really still is, had her breasts cut off because she, he, they, their, them, had fallen prey to a viciously harmful fad without using the appropriate sex-linked pronoun and the real name of the real person to whom this was really done with his, her, their voluntary but unfortunate acquiescence,” he said.
“And so it was impossible to communicate what had happened to my audience without apparently running afoul of the impossible and absurd rule that now hypothetically governed morality itself in the days of the degenerated postmodern and Marxist ethos that we must still, no matter how impossible it is, abide by, or else.”
“And you might object,” Peterson continued. “Ellen/Elliot is an adult, thirty something, and fully capable of making up his, her, their own mind about such things and she, he, they are welcome from the liberal and the libertarian position to go to hell in hand basket as she, he, they see fit.”
“And I’m not taking down that tweet or acknowledging that my tweet violated the Twitter rule,” he said.
“Up yours, woke moralists. We’ll see who cancels who.”
“Twitter is a rathole in the final analysis and I have probably contributed to that while trying to use, understand, and master that horrible toxic platform,” Peterson said. “No doubt I owe some apologies for that and I’m trying to learn but it’s a relief in some real sense to be banned and I regard it under the present conditions as a badge of honor.”
On The March
Meanwhile, the transgenderism movement is on the march.
Peterson’s Twitter suspension came as the U.S. military was tearing itself apart and driving away potential recruits over things like the Commander-in-Chief’s pigheaded, politically correct insistence on going off-mission by instructing recruits about “correct” gender pronoun use, instead of focusing on things like fighting and winning wars and defending the United States.
The suspension also came before Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, exposed the irrational fanaticism of the transgenderism cult at a recent congressional hearing.
In a video that when viral, Hawley tried to get radical leftist Khiara Bridges, a Berkeley law professor, to admit that only women can get pregnant. She refused and tried to intimidate him into silence, haughtily accusing Hawley of following a “line of questioning [that] is transphobic and [that] opens up trans people to violence by not recognizing them.”
Bridges asked Hawley, “Do you believe that men can get pregnant?” When the senator answered in the negative, she shot back “So you’re denying that trans people exist!” as if she thought she was scoring points.
Having run into a brick wall of leftist incomprehension, Hawley replied, “And that leads to violence? Is this how you run your classroom?”
We can only imagine how Peterson would have used Twitter to analyze the Hawley-Bridges video, which will be used by, well, everyone on all sides, for fundraising.
The Left hates the intellectually intimidating psychologist with the heat of a thousand supernovas because he refuses to bend his knee to faddish woke ideas and fights for what he believes in absolutely without fear and always heavily armed with facts.
In other words, it is his calling to ridicule and embarrass leftists and this great man does so brilliantly and with devastating aplomb.
We need more like him.
