After a shooting happens, there’s usually a frantic effort to dig through social media to find information about the shooter. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes there’s an easy motive within view or a manifesto (even if the authorities cover it up as in Nashville) left behind. Sometimes not.
Whatever information about the motive of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the attempted Trump assassin, remains may be in his phone which the authorities supposedly have trouble getting into. Some people have noticed that he doesn’t have much social media, but that’s not too surprising for his age group. Crooks wasn’t an aspiring rapper or a teenage girl showing off so he wouldn’t necessarily have TikTok or Instagram. And since he’s under 50, he wouldn’t have a Facebook account. Twitter is not that common outside people with specialized interests like politics. As I predicted, he did have a Discord, but the company is claiming that he didn’t use it for politics. That’s not too strange since Discord also serves as a platform for all sorts of programs including gaming and AI. And at his age, it’s what he probably used it for.
Initially, it was claimed that he was a registered Republican and that he had donated through ActBlue to a leftist turnout campaign. Both of those claims have been challenged. And it’s not clear where the truth lies. A fellow student described him as ‘conservative’ but non-conservatives tend to be the worst readers of that. And at his age, politics can change radically not only year to year, but month to month. There are teens and twenty-somethings who go from alt-right to Antifa over the course of a couple of months.
Then there’s the usual school shooter stuff. He dressed in camo, was bullied and no one liked him.
Does any of this stuff matter? Arguably not.
Look, the average mass shooter is a loser. They’re most often alienated teens and twenty-somethings diagnosed as mentally unstable who are looking to forcibly make an impact. I’ve read more manifestos than I count and none of them are interesting. No one takes them seriously, no one has suffered like them, girls don’t like them, but when they shoot up a place they will experience an incredible sense of fulfillment and no one will forget them. It’s Columbine culture, it’s evil and it’s also boring.
Mass shooters carry out shootings because what they do is more interesting than who they are.
I expect that Thomas Matthew Crooks will fall into that category. He may have changed the course of an election and a country. And that is what your average loser with a gun wants to do. (Even if it didn’t happen the way he had planned it.) He also took the life of a husband and a father, and wounded two others.
Columbine culture is all about losers inflicting as much damage and making everyone pay attention to them. The best revenge is to forget them.

This may sound wacky but I believe this kid was picked because he was a “clean hands”: he was unknown, no internet presence. Anti Trump and a Biden donor, he was unstable and easily manipulated. Groomed and encouraged by someone like Ray Epps or another operative. Used then killed to remove any chance he may talk if allowed to live.
Don’t think it’s wacky at all. For this kid lived 50 miles away and had probably never been to these fairgrounds, yet he knew which building to climb that was both unguarded by security and gave him a clear shot at Trump. He was either very lucky or had help. I think it was the latter.
Very true, Daniel. It was probably the most “interesting” Thomas had ever been in his short, misguided life. Classmates said he was a loner who wore a mask long after COVID was over. I know what political affiliation that typically describes in my region.
With the FBI stating that they’re about 70% finished going through his phone and still struggling to come up with a motive, my thoughts go to his medicine cabinet…and if he turns out to be another in a long line of dosed shooters, THAT’S the reason all this matters.
As my fellow Tennesseans and I figured out after Aubrey Hale was revealed to being “under a doctor’s care for a mental disorder”, that typically means the pharmacy is open…and Big Pharma is always ready to “help”.

Videos are circulating which may or may not be him -one of an unhinged tantrum against Republicans ( frankly, many leftists may do this). But, I have no interest in him. I do have an interest in the Elephant in the Room question no one is asking. How did he know to make a b-line for just that rooftop? The one unmonitored? Were all local losers informed. “Hey, theres lax security and an available roof?”
Why does no one ask this question? Because the answer could be as shocking as the event.
I am also suspicious of the ready to roll sappy Democrat comments and the immediate pulling of Democrat anti-Trump ads. Were they expecting that there would be no popular Republican candidate remaining and then they could call for unity now that Donald Hitler is gone? I would like to know more about his ‘counselor’ parents. ‘Counselor’ sounds so nice and comforting, but if one of them was a ‘psychiatrist’, that means mind altering drugs.
I would like to know how he grew up, where he lived, and what his friends say about him.
I would like to know how such a thin soy boy could bear-crawl up a 50 ft. building…and how he got access to a ladder.
And lastly, I read where ‘dad’ is a libertarian and ‘mom’ is a dem….it’s pretty convenient to say you are a libertarian, depending on the topic….it said ‘dad’ bought him the gun…really? I would think these ‘counseling’ parents would be against guns….
Not only how he could climb up to the roof, but how did he know that was the one building that was not covered by security and gave a clear shot at Trump. Given that he lives about 50 miles away and probably never been to that fairgrounds, how did he know that was the one location that gave him a clear shot and he would not be stopped by security to climb up onto the roof? He was either extremely extremely lucky or someone gave him instructions on where to go. I don’t think he was that lucky.
Here is my two cents: Thomas Matthew Crooks was a modern day “Manchurian Candidate” If there is one, there are others. Just show them the queen of diamonds.

If you measured society or schools by metrics similar to those used in production, it would not reflect well on us.
Highschool graduation rates are a quick an easy measure that is similar to a factory.. If you generalize it a little more and do a few iterations, you have a train wreck.
The shooter was socially inept and his father was in the business of treating such people with drugs. It seems lately (at least since Columbine) that most shooters have been on psychoactive drugs for some condition or other. Don’t hold your breath waiting to learn the details of this drug regime.
I don’t think the shooter was inept at all. His shot was spot on. Had Trump not moved his head slightly at the second the shot was approaching; the shooter would have been successful in his efforts.
I live in Uvalde, Texas where we experienced a horrific school shooting two years ago. The author if this article is quite accurate about these types of mass shooters. I think that the use of his term “Columbine Culture” explains what we exprerienced here in Uvalde and the tragic attemot on Presdient Trump two days ago. Conspiracies do not explain every action that unfolds in history.

The liberal news outlets have been using a picture of him when he was much younger. When he died, he had long hair and looked less innocent.
The shooter had to be incredibly lucky or been helped by Trump opponents. For, the shooter had no knowledge of that area where Trump spoke, yet the shooter was able to find a building to climb that wasn’t being watched by security and be up there for 30 minutes despite people telling the police that the shooter was there.
But how did the shooter know that was the one building that would be free for him to climb up? It would make more sense that the shooter had been trying for a few weeks and finally got an opening. But he just bought ammo that day, so that’s not likely. Basically the shooter drove to a place he knew nothing about beforehand and was able to find the one building that both was not being watched by secret service and gave a clear shot at Trump. I don’t think he was that lucky. I think he was given a plan and an opening by higher ups to do this.
