Air Force Chief of Staff Charles Q. Brown Jr, Biden’s nominee to replace Milley as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had signed off on a memo to impose a 43% quota for white male officers in the Air Force. That would be catastrophic at a time when the Air Force is struggling with recruitment, faces a shortage of over 1,000 pilots and 86% of its pilots are white men.
Brown, who claimed that America is racist and that he faced racism when someone questioned whether he was parked in the right spot, has been obsessed with remaking the Air Force in his own image. Even with only 1 out of 2 key aircraft and bombers ready to fly, the woke chief of staff has emphasized diversity in hiring and promotion at the expense of merit and ability.
Now a Rand report funded by the Air Force shows what it will take to achieve diversity. And diversity, which is more important than winning, won’t be achieved as long as the Air Force clings to basic qualifiers like weight, test scores and no criminal record.
“The most-important barriers for all gender and racial and ethnic groupings,” the report argues, are the Air Force’s “BMI” or Body Mass Index and “height requirements” as well as the “minimum standards” for the Armed Forces Qualification Test and education standards.
Earlier this year, the Air Force had lowered BMI standards from 20% for men to 26% and from 28% for women to 36% for women. And in 2020, the Air Force had dropped a waiver for a minimum 5’4 height requirement for pilots in order to attract more women. There were also complaints that aircraft had been designed around the height of the average white man.
The fighter jets of tomorrow will need to come in a variety of height and weight cockpits to accommodate every possible body shape no matter how impractical that may be.
“For black men, the greatest barrier is the AFQT and education requirement, which decreases their representation by roughly 3.5 percentage points. For Hispanic men, the BMI and height requirements decrease their representation by more than 2 percentage points,” the Rand report notes.
Armed Forces Qualification Test score standards have already been lowered. The Navy will be accepting those who score as low as “the 10th percentile, lower than 90 percent of all test results”.
The Air Force currently expects an AFQT score of 31. Back in 2004, the Air Force’s chief of testing had argued that, “we don’t want people to think we are lowering the standard of quality coming into the Air Force. It appears that way because 36 is lower than 40, but it will still be the same quality of applicants we are accepting into the Air Force today.”
31 is even lower than 36. But somehow it still isn’t low enough.
The same is true for height, obesity and all the other standards. Diversity requires further compromises in even the most basic expectations. The problem is that “enlistees must have a high school diploma or GED, no more than two dependents and not be a single parent, and have no felony convictions.” They’re also not supposed to be criminals or drug users.
And without the illiterate single parents with extensive criminal records and drug use (who are also short and fat) how are we ever going to find the Top Guns of tomorrow to win our wars?
Gen. Anthony J. Cotton, the head of Strategic Command, who claimed that he could have been easily killed by racist cops just like George Floyd, bragged that at the Air Force diversity is a “warfighting imperative”.
An ongoing theme of Air Force press releases is that, “diversity makes the Air Force stronger”.
But if diversity is making the Air Force stronger, why does the Air Force have to accept fat and dumb enlistees? How do fat dumb personnel make the Air Force stronger?
Those are questions that we’re not supposed to ask.
The premise behind DEI in the Air Force and across the military was that talented and qualified personnel were being kept down by unconscious bias and overt racism. The only reason that the Air Force didn’t have the same percentage representation as the country as a whole at every level were systemic barriers that had been put in the way of a naturally diverse service.
If this were true then diversity would not require lowering standards. The fact that it does shows that the accusations of racism were a lie. The issue wasn’t the Air Force, it was the recruits.
Lowering standards proves that diversity doesn’t make the Air Force stronger and it isn’t remedying an injustice. So what arguments are there for lowering standards for diversity?
“I hire for diversity, because they all bring a different perspective,” Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr argued. The notion that a diversity of ideas can only come from a diversity of skin colors is a deeply racist concept that reduces not only our bodies but our minds to the sum of our race. White and black people can only come up with the ideas already encoded into their DNA.
What incredibly diverse ideas have Brown, Cotton and other diverse Air Force officials brought to the table beyond the need to trash everything else in order to enable more diversity?
Is the more diverse Air Force any readier to win wars? No. Aircraft readiness standards and force strength standards have fallen badly under Brown. The Air Force has become weaker and ‘woker’. Brown’s obsession with politics over warfighting will cost lives if we’re in a major war.
“It is a strategic imperative that we have and raise an army that is reflective of our nation and reflects the core values for which our nation was founded,” Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost, the head of U.S. Transportation Command, contended. Those two things don’t go together.
Our nation was founded on merit, not on the hollow pursuit of quotas. A military that best embodies our core values is one in which the best qualified people rise to the top. One reason America has been so successful in defeating peer competitors is that we had the best men.
Now we are lowering our standards to accommodate fat, dumb criminals who may be completely inappropriate for the job, but will hit the racial and ethnic quota numbers.
The racial quotas that Gen. C.Q. Brown Jr. signed off on specify in granular detail that there must be 4.5% male multiracial officers and 3.5% female Asian officers. It doesn’t matter if they can read or write, are too fat, too short or have eight kids by eight different fathers. What matters is that they’re diverse. And when diversity is the only thing that matters, everything else is lost.
Diversity generally makes us weaker. For example, in tribal warfare in Africa, desertion was a major problem (maybe even THE major problem). Each different faction was liable to break off and run when things started going badly.
The members of each faction talk to each other and plot and plan to desert when the opportunity is favorable. That was even a problem in caravans, desertion (with the goods) and threats of desertion to extract higher pay were a constant problem.
“Diversity is our strength” is The Big Lie.

In all my years in the US Army there was absolutely no diversity allowed. Everyone was Army green, and that was the only color allowed. The standards were lowered for females and it has been down hill ever since then.

Brown was a pilot and a F-16 flight instructor instructor so it is quite odd that he would be ok with the lowering of standards to allow anyone into aircraft that lack merit and competence. Expect a whole lot of Military flight instructors to be removed from thier positions because they will be refusing to certify people they know that will get themselves and other killed.
Brown knows that it is prohibitively expensive, possibly impossible, to construct ejection seats that work bothfor tiny, lightweight pilots and big, fat ones. Ejection seats are designed to work withing a tight height and weight standard.
Brown is woke. Woke is a religion. A religion is not about the science of vectors and thrust and gravity.
Brown, and those like him, consciously risks the security of our nation to worship his religion. He would rather have equity hires mangled in ejections than have top quality pilots successfully defend us all.

The U.S. armed forces are already too puny to win a war with China, and probably with Russia as well. The only bright spot I can see in what the Left is doing to the military with its Woke CRT nonsense is alienating its real warriors. These might be counted on to join an American Insurgency just as did the best of the U.S. officer and cadet corps during the GOP coup between 1860 and 1868. The problem with that scenario is it presents a wonderful opportunity for China to intervene. China could count on support from the established order of Democrats and Republicans to secure their sinecures.
Maybe with a smaller military which it looks like we are heading towards, we hopefully will do a lot less meddling in parts of the world where we don’t belong. When are they going to reinstitute the draft to fill the void in their recruitment numbers. All the services recruiting is in the toilet.

I’m a second generation USAF Colonel. Dad retired in ’89, the same year I received my commission. Served 31 years, and never thought I’d see such insanity. Thankful to have retired in 2020 as we were on the cusp of this madness.
I too (ref Chief Mac’s “Army Green” comment) appreciated the uniting color of AF Blue – the uniform and attained rank being the ONLY identifiers. Performance, standards, training & education, and taking care of Airmen were (and should still be) a must for a ready to fight military structure.
Regardless of the woke agenda, the race compilation of our population won’t support such a deplorable military hiring approach. 50.4% of our population is female. Speaking from first-hand experience – the societal topic of recruitment and retention of women is far more complex and just not enough space.
I’m horrified to think of being promoted in rank or a new job because I am a woman – or rather should I say I am “biologically – she, her, hers” a woman. How insulting. It literally nullifies all my hard work and adherence to standards. Quotas make female and minority Airmen look weak; let alone our military writ large (really? limit on white men? extra budget for more fabric for fat folks? tailored cockpits?). This is truly shameful. Wonder if the chow hall is serving lucky charms, ice cream cones, and chocolate covered almonds? Why not, they’re on the government’s healthy “food compass.”

Thank you for your service and for sharing the benefit of your experience. Obviously what they’re proposing is unworkable, but they can’t back down from it either because their primary loyalty is to an ideology, not a country. So they are pursuing their versiion of census numbers through REDCAT and insisting that military demographics should match civilian ones which make no sense. And yes different groups have different parameters and retention rates for women, especially with much higher injury rates and different life goals, wlll differ.
The Air Force has obviously has been though some drastic changes since I completed my 22 years of service in 1996. It appears the promotion system and leadership at the top ranks is broken. Military personnel are not supposed to be taking political positions on issues, yet senior officers and enlisted are doing just that now! I knew fellow military members for 22 years and never knew their politics, who they supported, who they voted for, it was just never discussed! Our focus was the job our duty! I did see a change coming under President Clinton toward the end of my career, but it was never prominent. President Clinton leaned into the gay in the military issue with the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy which as I recall was discussed and the general consensus was it was good policy. Your sexual proclivities are supposed to be private. Now that policy is demonized. Obviously, with Senior officers and enlisted taking political positions the promotion system is broken and must be reformed! There is no way senior military leaders openly taking political position should be in any position of authority in the military! The job is to prepare in order to prevent war, train, fight if war comes, and win! Nothing more!
Perhaps the U.S. Air Force will decide on flying combat in hot air balloons. Those in charge can supply the uplifting gas.
Readiness? Force Strength? If the political winds are blowing woke, then woke is what it’s going to be, and readiness will just have to suffer! Brown’s got a CAREER to think about…..Gen. These countries in 2018 were the least diverse countries in the world. They were almost entirely white, almost entirely Protestant Christian (or from a Protestant Christian background) and their citizens spoke the same language.
Just five years later I wonder whether these countries which experimented with a little diversity are still as “happy.” Sweden now has the highest rape rate in Europe and third in the world after South Africa and Botswana. The overwhelming perps of Sweden’s rapes are foreign-born males.

My mom was a WASP (Women’s Air Service Pilot) during WWll and tested repaired planes and also transported them to different bases. Five foot two, she had to use a big cushion behind her in order to use the controls.
The point that goes unsaid but is the most important is that all this destruction of our Army, Navy, and Air Force & Coast Guard is being done on purpose by very motivated destroyer communist officers who have been selected just because they are willing and able to do what’s needed to put an end to the USA. Diversity has never been our strength. What gives us strength is a common goal, common understanding of our mission and complete dedication to achieve our goals as a team. It does not matter one bit what color your skin is. If you are Male you need to meet physical standards required for the rigors of your job. Same goes if you are a Female, not one inch less than the men. And leave LGBTQ out of the equation. Don’t ask and Don’t Tell was and is the best policy.
