The military recruitment crisis that has crippled our defense capabilities has been talked to death by generals, politicians and pundits who have blamed everything from rising minimum wages to obesity to Gen Z culture for the problem. They have raised enlistment bonuses to unprecedented levels, spent fortunes on ad campaigns that feature lesbian weddings and doubled down on DEI as the answer to the crisis. And yet the crisis has grown worse.
That’s because recruitment was a self-inflicted problem caused by a woke racist military.
Between 2018 and 2023, white Army recruits, once the mainstay, fell from a bare majority of 56% to a minority at 44%.
This was not an unintended effect, but policy.
“We are an Army that wants to look like America,” Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen, the first black head of Army Recruiting Command, had proclaimed.
Gen. Gary Brito, the first black head of Army Training and Doctrine Command under whose purview recruiting falls, and the former deputy Army chief of staff for personnel, had boasted of Army “listening sessions” on racism, diversity and inclusion in order to maximize diversity.
Military brass had been tasked with creating a military that “looked more like America” and as a result the number of white Army recruits declined year by year and fell 43% from 44,042 in 2018 to 25,070 in 2023.
Black, Hispanic and other minority recruits became a majority, but there weren’t any more of them than there had been before. Minorities were joining the Army at the same rate as they had before, but with fewer white recruits they had become a majority by default.
Pushing white men away with DEI struggle sessions, affirmative action quotas and mandatory pronoun training was supposed to open the door for minorities who were being ‘blocked’ by the ‘whiteness’ of the military from joining up and serving, but the minorities aren’t showing up.
Equity had created a recruitment crisis with a majority-minority enlistment population that looked good on paper, but without the white recruits, the Army experienced a shortfall of 10,000 recruits. Rather than growing the Army, the emphasis on DEI had shrunk it instead.
Army Secretary Christine Wormuth urged “strategically deploying recruiters to communities across the country based on demographics, ethnicity, race, and gender.”
40% of military recruits come out of the South, 44% come from rural areas and the Army instead began recruiting in “underrepresented cities” like Baltimore, Minneapolis, and New York City.
Wormuth, who got her start as a Clinton intern, complained that, “today more than 80% of recruits come from military families. There is a risk of developing a warrior caste when only 1% of the population serves in the military.” But without the “warrior caste”, no one serves.
Woke military leaders turned their backs on the white rural men from military families who represented their recruitment base and instead began chasing minority recruits in NYC.
A Quinnipiac poll from 2022 found that if America were invaded, 70% of men, 40% of women, 57% of white men, 61% of Hispanics and 38% of black people would stay and fight. Military recruitment has been retooled to focus on those least likely to want to fight for America.
West Point was turning away even very well qualified white candidates while its Director of Admissions admitted that “every qualified African-American applicant were offered admission into West Point, yet the class composition goal was still lacking.” The goal was the United States Military Academy’s intensive quota system meant to cut 20% of white officers from the mix.
The Academy has been sued by qualified white candidates, including a high school student with a 4.2 GPA, three family members currently serving in the military and a grandfather who fought in the Army on D-Day, who were kept out because their skin color was not diverse enough.
Beyond the Army, this was a problem that was taking place across the entire military.
The Senate recently voted to confirm Charles Q. Brown Jr. as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. While serving as Air Force Chief of Staff, Brown had endorsed a 43% quota for white male officers at a time when 86% of pilots are white men. That’s how you get recruitment shortages.
As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Brown is in a position to deepen the military’s systemic racism.
The recruitment crisis was a case of the woke military leadership getting almost exactly what they wanted. White men, locked out of career tracks, forced into implicit bias and pronoun training, have opted out. Military families are telling their kids not to serve and ending the “warrior caste” that Army Secretary Christine Wormuth was worried about. And with Army recruiters focusing on Baltimore and New York City, instead of the rural South, potential recruits are left behind. But the woke military is struggling and failing to find the woke recruits it wanted.
It was always the rural white men who were going to be the likeliest to fight and die for America.
“We’ve never offered $50,000 to join the Army,” Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen, head of U.S. Army Recruiting Command, had said. You can’t pay anyone enough to hold the line on the battlefield.
The Army turned away those who would serve for love of their country and can’t seem to find enough of those diverse Gen Z’ers with multiple pronouns who will serve for money.
The leaders who have made these decisions have blamed the crisis on everything except their policies. They claim that obesity, the job market, opioids and even an “underfunded public school system” are the reasons that recruits aren’t showing up. The real reason is racism.
Their racism.
The recruitment crisis consists of the missing white men who aren’t showing up for duty.
The military doesn’t have a recruitment crisis: it has a systemic racism crisis. Reversing the recruitment crisis requires getting rid of DEI. Woke military leaders have claimed that they need DEI to prepare for the diverse recruits of tomorrow, but the diverse recruits aren’t coming.
The U.S. Army signed a $4 billion marketing contract with Omnicom, one of whose subsidiaries worked on the Biden campaign, to market the military. It could tear up that contract, save the money and restore the traditions of honor, colorblind service and integrity that made it strong.
Ending woke systemic racism in the military will also end the recruitment crisis.

After our resounding victory in WW II we fell into the lazy habit of assuming that our armed forces were, and would always be, the best and most powerful in the world, and invincible in battle against any foreign enemy–which, at the time, they had proven they were.
That comfortable assumption lasted for about 5 years–until the Korean War, the first time we went hat-in-hand to the U.N. for “permission” to fight, and even then only with “one hand tied behind our back.”
Since then we’ve never won a war where we felt the need to “ask” some corrupt, hostile globalist organization, or the editorial board of the NYT, for “permission”–the meek, timid attitude that prevails to this day.
If, G*d forbid, we have to fight another war (short of the brief, insignificant invasion of Grenada against a handful of weak, badly outgunned enemy “troops” and construction contractors) we’ll lose, and lose badly.
Not a good place to be in as Communist China tees-up their plans to invade and conquer the Republic of China (Taiwan) with their own military, which is now much larger and more powerful than ours, thanks to the Communists’ theft (or as often as not, outright purchase from corrupt American defense contractors and bribed politicians) of our best state-of-the-art technology and weapons.
How many LGBTQ, or Transexual officers and men(?) does the PLA recruit for the sake of “Diversity” and “Inclusion”?
And, of course, our own huge domestic Fifth Column, which now controls all of our most influential institutions, works energetically 24/7/365 to undermine even our will to defend ourselves and our allies, and deters us from having the means to do so. They question whether we, and they, are still even worth defending.
Former(?) JCS Chairman Mark Milley’s announced intention to give his Communist Chinese counterpart a “heads-up” if Trump ordered any move against Communist China’s interests can only be characterized–and should have been, but wasn’t–as the capital crimes of Treason and Mutiny.
Milley’s attitude now seems to be ubiquitous among our highest-ranking military commanders. We no longer have any Pattons, or Nimitzes, or MacArthurs, or Halseys in charge.
May G*d help us…but my fear is that He will give us (or let us do) what we deserve, and have willingly and voluntarily brought down on our own heads.

I served 4 years in the U S Air Force (1961-1965). During my last 3 years at Ramstein Air Base I enrolled in University of Maryland courses and received approximately one year of college credit. This prepared me for the opportunity to complete college and graduate school upon being Honorably Discharged. I achieved the rank of Senior Airman (E4) in about 3 1/2 years which was difficult but achievable if you put your mind to it.
Many airmen did not achieve rank simply because they had such a callous attitude. Most of the black airmen wanted to shoot pool, play cards, drink, etc. White airmen, on the other hand, put in the effort and received the promotions. Blacks looked at the small picture while whites looked at the big picture. To me, the rank had its privileges along with a larger paycheck. You should be rewarded for what you put into your life and enjoy what you can take out of it. Color and quotas should not be a determining factor.

It sounds as if they have tried their experiment of seeing whether reducing the proportion of white recruits would increase the number of entrants who were people of colour, and have proved conclusively that whatever was limiting the interest of the latter, it wasn’t the former. So now they can return to earlier recruitment practices, surely? Or maybe they could just ask people in their final year at school or university whether they have considered the military as a career, and if not, why not.

Recruiting isn’t the root of the problem. It’s what the potential applicants see after joining that’s the problem. Feckless leadership (Afghanistan), woke culture, having to constantly walk on eggshells around the easily offended, promotions based on diversity and not merit etc…

But men like him would be instantly rejected as applicants, and certainly for promotion, as “extremists” and “the black face of white supremacy” as soon as their columns here on FB, and their posts on “social media,” were noticed.
Remember, Col. West was cashiered for firing his pistol harmlessly into the ground, successfully frightening a captured terrorist into confessing his (the terrorist’s) group’s plans to ambush and kill West’s men the next day, which saved West’s troops’ lives.
Imagine that “outrage”–frightening an enemy terrorist into revealing his plans, instead of keeping him comfortable and smugly uncooperative!

Also, they shouldn’t care about recruits from military families, about a warrior caste. How many actors, actresses, and singers come from entertainment families? From the minute you walk in the gate at a Recruit Training Center, the recruit becomes a punching bag. It’s part of the process of building strong soldiers and sailors from weaker raw material but, more importantly, it teaches the kind of team building you won’t find at any seminar. The recruit is forced to rely on his teammates at first until bonds are established and soon, in short order, the recruit no longer exists. Only the unit remains, which is stronger than the sum of it’s parts. This is a time-honored tradition and method of building Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines that has stood the test of time.
…until now.
Thanks to DEI and woke positions by higher up’s, there can no longer be a functioning team with white males in them because the white male NEVER stops getting punched, while other than white males are being taught that whites deserve those punches. There can be no unit, because UNITY was never established. My only surprise is that white recruitment didn’t drop more than 43%.
When Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen said he wanted an Army that “looks like America”, I wonder if he realized how on the mark he was…because the military is now just as dysfunctional as most of woke America.

The first concept I learned at NTC Orlando Navy bootcamp was, the Navy’s goal was to strip the recruit of their “individuality” and force the 80 yammering, snot-nosed, hormone-poisoned, “Burger Kings” to work as one big team.
Our 1987 graduating class won every unit flag possible for excellence , and (sorry, but this Sailor’s gotta brag) I was awarded the Academic High Performer award, 1st of 80. (it helped that I was 26 years old at the time,)
It was 32 years ago this very day that Operation Desert Storm kicked off… and I witnessed our Navy S-3 Viking squadron flying off the USS Ranger (CV-61) for 42 consecutive nights into a piece real estate on this Earth that blistered with over 17,000 anti-aircraft batteries,
That “teamwork” that was drilled into those 5000 MEN (only) onboard that carrier was insane to witness. Deemed “The Night Carrier”, Ranger launched over 100 sorties every night for 6 weeks straight with no shipboard fatalities. (2 A-6 Intruder Aircrew were lost the next night by anti-aircraft fire during a mining operation)

I don’t know about you, but if I had to join the Navy today, I probably wouldn’t. Belay that, I wouldn’t. In 1977 I was a poor high school dropout with a GED, and college wasn’t an option. My Navy training and experience led me down the road to a successful life. Maybe the best decision of my young life. It would be a huge loss if that oppurtunity slips away.

I was a member of the warrior caste. We started our service to America before the rest of the country existed. We refused to surrender our cannons at Concord Massachusetts on 19 April 1775 and have been in service every generation since.
I only served a bit over 9 years, oldest brother 6 and midlle brother 17. My eldest went to Iraq and my niece and her husband serve now.
They are the LAST generation. No more, we have done our share and more. We didn’t leave the Army, if left us.

Southern white boys have been the core of our army since the 19th century. The big question in the Spanish-American War was would the South unite with the country and send its young men. Southern recruits poured in at an incredible rate. I guess they are more ‘warlike’ down there.

I am retired Air Force and ashamed at what they have done to it. I will not recommend anyone in my family or close friends join now. They blew it. Also, if they wanted a force to look like America you can do that only one way – the Draft. And make the rich serve as well. No college exceptions. But they aren’t really serious.

This doesn’t appear to be a problem because the Communist Chinese will fill our military requirements along with other immigrants of foreign nations so when the time comes they won’t think twice about taking over the population or confiscate our guns.
