Dementia is a terrible thing that most people dread. Many in fact would prefer sudden death to a slow decline into so-called imbecility in which the world no longer regards you as “relevant” but instead pushes you into the ‘living dead’ category.
This is especially true for Joe Biden, whose mental decline can no longer be hidden or camouflaged, thanks to the report from Special Counsel Robert K. Hur.
Until the special counsel’s report, most who commented on Biden’s decline were scorned as insensitive elder-haters and MAGA attack-dogs. In fact, any criticism of Biden’s memory problems and verbal gaffes on social media were greeted with scathing remarks from die-hard Democrats.
“Disgusting! Don’t you have an old aunt or uncle with age-related issues? Is this the kind of sensitivity you show towards them?”
The old aunts and uncles being spoken of here were not the “elected” president of the United States, so it doesn’t matter whether they can remember when one of their children died, or when they served as vice president of Alcoa Aluminum.
When I brought up Biden’s mental decline with a fire-breathing Democrat friend, I was told that right-wing propaganda had exaggerated the problem while overlooking Donald Trump’s age-related disasters at the podium.
This was before Hur’s five-hour interview with Biden, in which it was revealed that the president couldn’t recall the years he was VP as well as the date of the death of his son.
Biden, on the defensive, claimed that his memory was fine while going on to commit another gaffe, referring to Egypt’s leader, Abdel Fattah El as the President of Mexico. Former gaffes included references to Francios Mitterrand as the current president of France and Germany’s Helmut Kohl, who died in 2017, as alive and well.
Biden dismissed the special counsel’s report as “extraneous commentary” mainly because it referenced his poor memory, especially in relation to the date of his son’s death.
“How in the hell dare he raise that?” Biden said, referring to the report.
That’s essentially what my Democrat friend told me when I questioned Biden’s mental capabilities.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, however, said that the president was okay because “He can ride a bike,” which belies the fact — as many observers have pointed out — that even though gorillas, bears and monkeys can ride bikes, they usually don’t fall off of them.
After the Hur report, came a slew of limp comparisons to Trump, namely that the former president made (and continues to make) the same high number of memory mistakes that Biden does.
Biden’s drone- defenders won’t quit, however.
They point to Trump’s confusing Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi as a watershed moment, a mistake equal in every sense to Biden’s multitudinous gaffes.
This desperate comparison would be funny if it were not taken seriously by so many.
One glaring hole in this comparison is that when Trump speaks, he tends to speak for hours at a time.
While you may not like Donald Trump’s choice of words or the way he arranges them in sentences, he is an ingenious wordsmith nevertheless. He does not talk like Biden: in slow motion animated zombie-speak, as if he were fighting off the effects of Oxytocin.
When Trump speaks (for hours at a time), there are bound to be a few foul ups — mispronunciations, an incorrect date here and there — but this in no way compares to Biden’s blunders every time he opens his mouth.
Nikki Haley, following the Dems’ lead, made a snide remark about Trump’s verbal mistakes to make a general ageist statement that the country doesn’t need two eighty-year-olds running for president. In other words, Trump equals Biden when it comes to mental competency.
Trump is 77 years old; Biden is 81. The difference may be negligible to younger people who think that anyone over 40 is old, but when you are in your seventies every year counts, not to mention that Trump’s mental trajectory is far more vigorous than Biden’s.
NBC News was quick to assess the Special Counsel’s report by quoting a panel of brain health “experts,” who stated that “Forgetting the names of acquaintances or having difficulty remembering dates from the past doesn’t affect decision making or judgment.”
Conversely, Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marty Makary, stated that Biden is experiencing signs of age-related dementia,” a terrible thing for any senior to have to endure, and something that should be treated with compassion and understanding, provided that the one afflicted — in this case, Biden — doesn’t allow narcissistic self-interest to put the country at peril because he refuses to admit there’s a problem.
Because Biden refuses to admit he has a problem, then outside interests have a right to hard press the issue at the risk of seeming insensitive.
Yet Democrats are doubling down hard when it comes to defending Biden’s mental incompetence.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to the airwaves to say that Biden is one of the “most successful presidents in history.”
Hilary Clinton danced around the controversy when she posited that Biden’s age is a “legitimate issue,” but went no further.
Biden’s co-dependent, First Lady Jill, defended her husband’s condition when she said in an email to campaign donors that,
“We should give everyone grace (a Catholic word she’s never used when she talks about abortion), and I can’t imagine someone would try to use our son’s death to score political points. If you’ve experienced a loss like that, you know that you don’t measure it in years—you measure it in grief.”
What a wonderfully existential sentiment.
Naturally, something like the death of a child isn’t measured in years, but—when you’re the president and standing at a podium, and when the date of your son’s death date is merely one of your many countless memory disasters, then, as Hal the computer said to Dave in the film ‘2001,’ “We have a problem.”
And yet here we have Jill acting out in an extraordinary display of Irish drama:
“May 30th is a day forever etched on our hearts. It shattered me, it shattered our family….what helped me, and what helped Joe, was to find purpose. That’s what keeps Joe going, serving you and the country we love.”
“Serving you and the country we love” is nothing but Hallmark card blubber-speak.
You don’t “serve” the country by creating the worst border crisis in U.S. history, and by making unilateral decisions that fuel unprecedented illegal immigration. That’s not serving the country at all.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and VP Kamala Harris both said that the Special Counsel’s report was “politically motivated.”
Scarborough called the report a “Trump-like rambling” and condemned the Justice Department for releasing “garbage.”
In another report to disparage the Special Counsel’s findings, CBS News offered a peculiar spin when it reported on the results of the recent election of a Democrat from Buck County to the Pennsylvania State House as proof that Pennsylvania voters remain unaffected by concerns about Biden’s age and mental capabilities.
“Looking ahead to November, Democratic voters who appeared at the polls on Tuesday (February 13) felt confident about Mr. Biden’s chances of winning Pennsylvania in a potential rematch with Trump, the frontrunner for the GOP nomination,” the report stated.
“Most who spoke to CBS News dismissed concerns about the president’s age, which were brought into the spotlight by special counsel Robert Hur’s classified records report. The report concluded charges should not be brought against Mr. Biden, but said the president could ‘present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’”
An elderly man with a poor memory, which is to say: no matter what he does or what he forgets, he is our embolismic grandfather figure, and we’ll vote for him even if that means destroying the country.

Yeah, when they started pitching the ”Trump in worse mental state than Biden” I got a good laugh.
They are some desperately hateful people, that are desperately scared that the chickens are about to
come home.
john r butala says
I laugh too. Because while Biden had dementia, Trump is positively deranged.
Phil Hartmark says
If ever there was an elder deserving abuse it is Joe Biden… That being said, what the hell is wrong with Jill Biden? Does she actually believe that she can hide this baffoons very obvious decline? Does she want to be a loved queen so bad that she’ll continue to push this corpse out onto the stage to be mocked and ridiculed?
Ed Snider says
Every Demorat who tells you that there is nothing wrong with Biden is a deliberate liar caring nothing about the national well-being, and a world snowballing to hell.
Bob Meyer says
My problem isn’t that one or more candidates are showing signs of mental decline. Biden is the worst president in my lifetime and his major opponent is in a statistical dead-heat with him. That’s a real problem.
Luz Maria Rodriguez says
Trump took the test.
Why won’t the fool crook take the test? Why? What’s the smart arse afraid of?
Nan says
I like when they say Trump is senile. So does that mean we should vote for Biden, who is more senile?
Jeanie Myers McCashin says
Good stuff Thom…keep it coming. Thank you

Biden has dementia. Trump is a lunatic criminal.
Both are awful choices.
