Take Time For Yourself

One of the biggest things I enjoy now is learning to knit. I am lucky because of the fact that I run Pajama Mommy and get review copies of a lot of books. I have been requesting more knitting and stitchery books because there are more and more people doing it and I want to be able to keep up with the fads on my site. More importantly I wanted to learn how to do it too!
I just spent the past week reading Friday Night Knitting Club although the book did not teach me how to knit it truly inspired me to start knitting again, a craft I learned when I was much younger. A lot of us learn it when we’re young, never pick it up and forget how to do it. Thats what happened with me so I started buying and receiving a bunch of knitting craft books and I can honestly say they were absolutely ridiculous. I had the worst time trying to decipher the images. Do you know I finally got a kids book on it and that exactly showed real human hands step by step casting on.
I couldn’t believe it..I finally learned how to cast on. Granted it wasn’t perfect but I finally did it. I learned because I took time for myself. I spend most of my day in front of the computer and most of the night in front of it to. I work 12-14 hours a day normally. Yesterday, was my day off so Fil and I went up island I stopped at Joann’s Fabric Store and bought Knitting needles, 6 bundles of yarn (2 different colors), stitch counter, circular knitting needs, and a couple of other doodads. Then I spent the rest of the night knitting. Granted I am knitting a giant afghan and I may have made it too skinny but I will learn how to pick up or sew in my other sections .
Have you taken time for yourself? What have you done?

The knitting gods hate me. Every time I make something, my son finds it and unravels it so I don’t even bother anymore.

I wish I could say that I have made works of art, but nope, not me. I did knit when I was younger because it was something my mom did and I was always around it, but I have leaned more towards the “no-sew” way as I have gotten older.

AAargh! I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit. In fact, I’ve read a few instructional books but I never got started. It looks too complicated. I’m only good at crochet

The knitting gods aren’t really on my side either but the fact is I looked up local knitting stores and I’m taking a beginners class. It’s only $20 + materials and if it doesn’t work out where I am learning how I want they offer 1 on 1 classes for only $30 an hour.
Quite frankly I probably will end up with a persona class but I have to say my fiance is nothing but encouraging he’s glad to see me get out of the house and get a hobby!

I could never afford a personal class.

I soooo wish I could learn how to knit or crochet! I have always wanted to, but I just can’t seem to get it for some reason. I’ve tried looking at directions on probably a dozen different sites and books, but no go. Oh well…it isn’t meant to be, I suppose.

Dont use directions! Goto michaels or goto a local knitting shop once I did I understood.
Like I can explain it to you on my site knitpicker.net of you wanted to email me the way they explained it it might be easier to understand but its really hard.
Try going to utube they may have something as well. But reading from sites they aren’t helpful.

I’d love to see the project when it is done!

I had an unusual childhood for a boy. I spent a lot of time crocheting with my grandmother. I work primarily out of my home now (thanks, internet!), so whenever I get stressed and need to relax, I whip out my basket of yarn and go to town. You should have seen the look my Wife gave me the first time she saw that!

I love to knit. I can thank my mom for that. She is the craft queen, well, at least when it comes to fabrics. She quilts, knits, and crochets. The only thing I really caught on to was the knitting, though I have recently started to pick up on crocheting.

My grandma taught my sister and I to knit when we were kids and I don’t think I will ever forget the struggle we had just to make one little string of what could eventually be a whole blanket or whatever. I think I should get those needles out and give it a stab again… no pun intended. I certainly could use the stress relief. Thanks for the read.
