Embarassing to the max

June 9th, 2007 · Notebook ·

Have you ever gone to the store, hoping to have a nice day, and your child turns around and does something to embarass the crap out of you? Well, my son did that to me today.

We went out. It was a nice day to do it. We walked around the mall, ate lunch, and decided to stop by the book store for a look around and snack. And Mini Buff was good. All day. Not one incident. And by saying, “Good boy! Thank you!”, I am almost certain I jinxed it. Because as we were leaving the store, we went to grab a snack from the cafe, and as soon as I put him down, he ran over to the fire alarm….and pulled it. I wanted to cry. Needless to say, I grabbed him, dropped the drink I had in my hand and ran out the door.

Never again will I put him down anywhere near an alarm of any kind.

Beautiful site and funny posts. I followed your comment from Babylune here and am glad I did. I wanted to let you know Babylune is hosting a group writing project starting tomorrow (JUne 11) and the details will be up after midnight tonight. I would be so happy if you’d consider participating.

My son was a firebug when he was young. Finally, not knowing what else to do, I went to a fire station and told them what he was doing and asked for help.

They were great! They explained about fires and what they did. They let him climb on the truck. They let him start a fire with a magnesium bar. They demonstrated the getup they have to wear to set fires. They were calm and talked to him man to man.

You may want to take your son to a firehouse. When they explain all they have to do to fight fires, and show the equipment and suits they have to wear. It makes an impression.

Stopping by for Click and Comment Monday.

That kid’s awesome he managed to do that without fear. I always wanted to do that but I just can’t. Your son is the man!

Motherhood — it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure. And darn it, it’s not foolproof. You’re doing your best, and sometimes the kids will just go their own way, despite what they’ve been taught. Keep plugging away; you are doing good things for your little one.
