Going back to school

September 14th, 2007 · Notebook ·

I have attempted college twice. But I never made it through for one reason or another. I guess web design just wasn’t my thing. Still isn’t. ;) So, I have been a stay/work-at-home-mom for almost three years. Don’t get my wrong, I love it. I don’t have to go out into the world and deal with people. I couldn’t be happier. But lately, I have been thinking of going back to school and trying once more. Maybe paralegal or law enforcement this time. And I was also thinking of finally getting my drivers liscense. :) The community college here offers daycare, which would be awesome if I had to take Mini Buff with me for whatever reason. The only problem is, they won’t accept him into the program if he isn’t potty trained. (It’s something I’m failing miserably at.) I also need to go through all of our finances first. But in all honesty, the only time I will be able to do anything school related is when Big Buff gets his tax return. But I don’t know what he, personally, has in mind for that money other then catching us up on rent which is more important anyway. I’ll figure out some way to get the money and get some kind of degree. You watch!

I know you don’t know me…but I am the mom of four…and I have gone back to school for the 16th million time. This time, for good. I am going into education (I want to see lightbulbs in kids)…so I wanted to encourage your decision…it can happen, it just might be at a slower pace than before we were mommy’s!

If you go back to school be sure to check with it’s Women’s Center. I’m not sure how they work where you are but here at my university I work in the center and we have lots of stuff specifically for returning women - even a sorority! Other than that, just be sure to pick something you love and enjoy so that school is fun and not boring. It’s much easier to motivate yourself if you study something you’re greatly interested in (which sounds like a no brainer but you’d be surprised how many people don’t even take that into consideration when choosing their majors these days).

I wish you the absolute best of luck!

Good for you! I never liked school when I had to go, but when my daughter was three I decided to go back to school and requalify for a different job. I discovered I loved learning when I finally found what I wanted to do. Sure I was thirty three, but better late than never. I’m thinking about getting my driver’s licence as well … thinking about it! I wish you all the best in finding what best suits you.

I thought about going back to school, but I have enough to handle as it is. Maybe some day..

Law enforcement.. I find that funny. Only because Jay’s a cop. I really have to advise against that..

Too funny… I just decided after almost 5 years of being a stay at home mom, that I too, would return back to school!

Of course, we now have many schedule conflicts, but oh my I can not wait to start October 8th!

I didn’t finish the first time I went around. Now, I’m back in school. Never too late to get an education. Good luck with it.

There’s no rush! It’s great that they offer a day care service, but you have plenty of time to think about it and get the potty training done with, and sort out all of your money for it.You probably have like 60 years to go back! Nowadays, you can really do it whenever is convenient for you, and then you’ll have a better chance of enjoying it.

But I’m sure a driver’s license would make your life a little easier :P

It’s good that you wanted to go back to school, because not all people want to. I hope you can go back to school :) And get your driving license!

Have you tried applying for financial assistance yet? There are programs, grants, scholarships etc available even if you are only going part-time. Chances are as a single income family you’ll qualify for at least some help.
